The play opens on July 19, 2010.Ghassan Kanafani is considered a leadingnovelist in the Arab world and one of theforemost Palestinian prose writers.Khanafani’s writings were mainly devoted todepicting the struggle of his people and toigniting new resistance acts against Israeliforces of occupation. He was assassinatedin Beirut by an Israeli car bomb in1972. Khanafani left behind a widow andtwo children.Men in the Sun tells the story of Palestinianrefugees who dream of reaching Kuwait inorder to find lucrative employment there.With the money they earn they hope to helptheir impoverished families left behind in therefugee camps. But the route out of Jordan,across Iraq and into Kuwait is a hard one.The refugees require the assistance ofpeople smugglers and there is the ever-present hazard of being ripped-off andfooled by dodgy middlemen and guides whotake you to the wrong place and then runaway.The play Men in the Sun will be directed by the American director Josh Perlsteinand will be performed in several Palestinian towns.
